On the 5th July 2004 TMD was presented the Queen’s Award for Enterprise (category of International Trade) by Wing Commander Edna Partridge (Deputy Lieutenant, London Borough of Hillingdon) at its premises in Swallowfield Way. In the presence of Deputy Mayor Councillor Jill Rhodes together with many of TMD’s employees and customers, Wing Commander Partridge presented Peter Butcher, Chairman & Managing Director with the crystal bowl and certificate signed by the Queen and the Prime Minister.
In her address, Wing Commander Partridge explained that the Queen’s award was the highest honour available to industry and was greatly sought after and valued – indeed only 11 companies had received the award in Greater London this year (in the International Trade Category).
The company earned the award on the strength of overseas earnings of £18 million over the last three years; success being achieved by a careful, vigorous and persistent approach to marketing and the pursuit of a thorough understanding of the culture and practices of the countries concerned.
On the occasion of TMD’s Queen’s Award presentation at the company’s premises, Engineering Director Howard Smith shows Wing Commander Edna Partridge (Deputy Lieutenant for Hillingdon) and Councillor Jill Rhodes (Deputy Mayor for Hillingdon) a TWT ready for shipment - for a long range air traffic control radar application. The majority of TMD’s sales have been made to Asia, the Americas and Europe, and to a lesser degree the Middle East and African Markets.
In receiving the award Peter Butcher stressed that the award was a result of great dedication and hard work at all levels of the company over many years. “In particular we are very proud of this great achievement only 9 years since our MBO from THORN EMI plc”. After the official presentation, our guests including the Wing Commander and the Deputy Mayor were taken on a factory tour by Engineering Director Howard Smith, where they were given an insight into the many fascinating and complex processes involved in the design and manufacture of microwave tubes and power supplies. |
